This year along with our calendar notebook we are going to have a copywork notebook in which the girls will copy a few letters or a few sentences every day to review memory work we have already accomplished as well as improve penmanship, and reinforce science, history, Bible, phonics, and other lessons we are learning along the way. To help with this process, I created some copywork pages, and I’m sharing them today for free!
Why do Copywork?
As Lindafay says, “[Copywork’s] purpose is to improve the child’s handwriting, expose them to noble thoughts, good sentence structure, rich vocabulary and introduce basic punctuation and capitalization rules.” Copywork increases spelling accuracy, memory retention, and beautiful penmanship.
Who is Copywork for?
Jessie Wise of the Well-Trained Mind recommends copywork for students through about 1st or 2nd grade as then they are usually ready for dictation. Thus, today’s printables are for Kindergarten, and K-2 prospectively.
180 Days of Copywork Printables for Kindergarten
The first notebook I am sharing is for my Teacup who will be doing Pre-K/Kindergarten work this next year. The printables are set-up to coincide perfectly with Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons (although you don’t have to be using this book in order to benefit from the printables), teach basic shapes, review numbers, and more. Take a look at the examples below.
