Organizing with Tin Cans

Organizing with Tin Cans

I love being able to find ways to use what I have to organize on the sly…er…cheap.  One of my favorite tools to use are tin food cans.  For instance, in our school room, I mod podged some leftover material from our roman shades onto some used food cans and sat them on a small turntable to make a rotating school supply station.  Six cans fit perfectly onto the turntable, matched the room’s design, and made it waaaay cheaper than buying a desktop carousel.

We also use tin cans in our bathroom.  For this toothbrush station, I printed some simple labels on my printer, laminated them with my Scotch Laminator (love that thing), cut them out, wrapped them around the cans and taped them on the back.  My daughters love them because they are easy to use and I like them because if they get too dirty they are cheap to replace!

I’ve also used tin cans to organize my children’s silverware on a lower shelf, organize desk supplies, organize game pieces such as the different colors of magnets used to make magnetic mosaics, and more.  Just to give you a few more ideas of how you can use tin cans in your home, check out some of these examples I found across the web.

Place heavy magnets on the backside of the tin to add to a refrigerator, magnet wall, or freezer to easily store and organize writing utensils, craft supplies and other items….

You can also use them in the shed to organize your screws, nails, nuts and bolts…or in the office as inboxes to organize your papers…. The possibilities are endless.  So, how are you going to use tin cans to organize your home?  Or, do you are already have some tin can stations set up?  I’d love to hear about ‘em!  But beware…I may have to steal your idea because tin can organization projects are just so cute and cheap they are hard to resist.  Don’t worry though, I’ll give you full credit!  ;)  Have fun organizing!
