Welcome to Day 6 of our 10-day Newspaper Activities series. Today I’m going to share a way to make some simple family oriented artwork for your wall with a Newspaper Silhouette. I remember the first time I visited my aunt’s remodeled house. I entered the bathroom full of shabby chic decor and fell in love with the black and white silhouettes. The sad thing–she had no idea who the silhouette’s were modeled after. Well today, you can easily create a silhouette using a sheet of newspaper and a piece of black construction paper. However, this time you’ll know exactly who that silhouette represents. Who knows, maybe you’ll get on a roll and cut out one for every member of your family. Talk about stately! I think I just found my next project. But alas, I digress. Let’s get on to the newspaper fun! Enjoy!
1. To begin, cut out a profile picture of the person you wish to make a silhouette.
2. Next, decide if you want the newspaper to be the silhouette or the black construction paper to be the silhouette. I’ve seen it both ways. For this example, I chose the newspaper to be the silhouette.
3. Trace the cut out photograph on the newspaper.
4. Cut out the silhouette.
5. Cut the background to the appropriate size for the frame.
6. Center and glue the silhouette onto the background paper.
7. Put your completed silhouette in a frame. Viola! You’re finished.
