There are nearly 200 countries in the world. That’s a lot of countries to memorize and locate, especially considering the fact that countries are changing all the time. Forget 200 countries–even memorizing 100 countries can be a challenge. For example, do you know where Herzegovina is?
A lot has changed geographically since I learned the countries of the world as a child, but there are still those well-known names that every children should know and be able to find on a map. For example, I imagine you could probably find the United Kingdom, United States, and China as those are countries often referred to in history, the news, or travel brochures.
When I created My First Amazing Journey Around the World, I completed a lot of research as to which countries I really wanted my children to know. I also wanted them to go deeper in their knowledge of those countries and not just know about the capital city. Below is my final top 100 list of geographical countries every child should be able to find and locate on a globe.
