Sugar. My life-long nemesis. I love it, and I hate it all at the same time. I’ve just recently finished reading Fat Chance by Lustig. Have you read that book? Long story short, Lustig is known as the anti-sugar doctor, but basically his book is all about how sugar has made Americans, and now the world, addicted to food. That’s right, addicted. It’s why we are all getting more and more obese every year.
So instead of telling myself no more sugar, I’m trying the replacement technique–what can I snack on instead that is not too expensive, is better for me, and tastes good? Here is what I have come up with so far….
30 Naturally Sugar-Free Snacks
- Naturally Sugarless Cookies (Seriously, these are still one of my favorite go-to snacks. But beware–even these are addicting.)
- An apple with nut butter (cashew is my personal favorite)
- Air-popped popcorn
- Roasted Chickpeas (These really do taste good. Even my daughters like to eat them.)
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Deviled eggs
- A slice of watermelon
- A Cutie…or two.
- Nuts with raisins
- Sliced cucumbers and homemade guacamole
- A cup of grapes with a stick of cheese
- A peach and some plain greek yogurt
- Garden of Life Raw Protein Drink (everything is organic, sugar free, and sprouted!)
- Carrots and homemade hummus
- Blueberry Pie for One (Yum! I substitute 1 stevia packet for the honey and it still tastes great!)
- A fruit smoothie or if I make it a little thicker, fruit ice cream!
- A banana with raspberry sauce (Substitute the sugar for a stevia packet; you’ll never notice the difference.)
- Pistachios (we love those around here)
- Zucchini Chips
- Kale chips (still trying to perfect this one, but the girls seem to like them too when I don’t burn them!)
- Pumpkin seeds
- Sweet potato chips
- Homemade fruit Popsicle
- Applesauce with cinnamon [bctt tweet=”I like to eat and the only thing I’ve ever been addicted to in my life is sugar. ~Crispin Glover” ]
- Strawberries with cream cheese filling
- Unsweetened carob chips (or if you are not allergic to chocolate like I am, unsweetened dark chocolate)
- Chia Pudding (you can substitute Stevia in this recipe too)
- A banana topped with nut butter
- Sweet potato fries
- Fresh cherries!
