Do you wish to make Easter more meaningful for your family this year? If you are anything like us, Easter just seems to creep up every year. In fact, last year, I was completely unprepared. Besides our resurrection eggs, I did nothing to prepare or celebrate the holiday. It just happened.
In contrast, every December we take a month to focus on and celebrate the birth of Jesus. We do crafts, sing songs, and even go watch musicals and bake special holiday treats. Yet when it comes to Easter we have done hardly anything.
In retrospect, I am appalled at how little time we have taken to focus on the true meaning of Easter. After all, shouldn’t we take just as much time, if not more, to focus on Jesus’ death and resurrection in comparison to his birth? I mean, without Easter there would be no Christmas.

For many Christians, Lent is an opportunity to prepare the mind for Easter through prayer, repentance, self-denial, and giving. While Lent began primarily in the catholic church, it is now celebrated by many denominations as a time of reflection and preparation for the spring holiday. It is a 40 day event to coincide with Jesus’ 40 days in the wilderness (Sundays are not typically counted as part of the 40 days). It is a time to replicate Christ’s sacrifice and spend more time with the Lord. In other word, it’s a great opportunity to “clean house” both in your heart and your home.
When Does Lent Begin?
Lent begins 46 days before Easter on Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday happens to be on Valentine’s Day this year, February 14, 2018 which is a little more than a week away!
Easter Countdown Printable
In an effort to make Easter more meaningful this year, we are going to be completing a 46 day Easter countdown during Lent and would love for you to join us. Today’s free printable is the resource we are going to use to make this happen.
The Easter countdown begins on Ash Wednesday. Each day we will cut out one of the suggested activities, complete it, and paste it on the Countdown to Easter board. Or, if we are feeling creative, we will use the blank activity markers to come up with other activities to countdown to Easter.
