Have you checked out my updated Facebook Timeline yet? I’m pretty excited about it. What I thought was going to be a long project to figure out ended up being so easy to customize myself. I think I created and uploaded it all in less than 30 minutes. And today, I’m going to show you how I did it in case you want to create a custom Timeline cover too.
First of all, the portion of the Timeline I will be explaining today is the cover or large banner portion. There are few things (according to Facebook’s Terms) to keep in mind as you get ready to customize your Timeline. The cover should not contain the following:
1. pricing or purchasing information or even downloading information.
2. contact info such as a website address, email address, mailing address, or the like. This goes on your About section.
3. suggestions to “like” or “share” the page or even an arrow pointing in that direction (unlike before…)
4. calls to action such as “get it now” or “tell your friends.”
In other words, keep your cover simple with lots of photos and little talk.
With that, let’s get on to creating a cover picture using PowerPoint!
Create a Facebook Cover via PowerPoint
1. Open a new PowerPoint document.
2. Format the size of your PowerPoint. To do this go to Design/Page Setup or File/Page Setup depending on the year of your PowerPoint software.
Width: 8.86 inches
Height: 3.28 inches
Number of Slides From: 1
Then select “ok.”
3. Now select “insert” and select your image(s) you want for your cover photo. Be sure to fill the entire slide and remember to keep the bottom left hand corner of your image free of important information as it will be covered with your profile picture. As a guide, this central area is approximately 1.64″ wide and .77″ high from the bottom left hand corner of your slide. To check your measurements you may go to View/Ruler to view a ruler at the top of your slide.
4. Once you have created your design like you like it, save the slide as a jpg. To do this go to File/Save As and select “other formats.” Where it says “save type as” toggle down and select “JPEG File Interchange Format.” Name the file and save the file where you can easily find it and select “save.”
5. Open your Facebook account. Place your mouse over the cover area until the button “change cover” appears. Select this button. Select “Upload photo.”
6. Find your cover photo you saved on your computer and open. Once uploaded to Facebook, drag to re-position the cover if needed and “save changes.”
You’re done. You’ve just created an awesome Timeline cover. I’m sure everyone else is going to be so jealous! 😉
