Growing up, I remember looking forward to listening to the latest Adventures in Odyssey stories while traveling in the car. I couldn’t wait to see what happened next at Whit’s End in the imaginary town of Odyssey. When I heard a new audio adventure series was coming out by the former producers of Adventures in Odyssey that included the voices of famous actors like Kirk Cameron, Skandar Kaynes, and Brian Blessed, I knew I had to check it out. Boy was I ever amazed! Heirloom Audio Productions is breathing new life into historical events one story at a time!
A Look Inside One of the Stories
Over the past month we have been listening to With Lee in Virginia at breakfast and loving it. As we are currently studying American history, it fits right in with our homeschool curriculum. It has helped our history lessons come alive for both my girls ages 7 AND 4.
Probably my favorite thing about With Lee in Virginia is how the story is told primarily from the south’s point of view–something that is often not heard of in a Civil War account. It is neat to see how God was involved on BOTH sides of the war.For example, did you know that Lee prayed often to God for wisdom and discernment? And, did you know that Lee fought for state rights and NOT slavery? As the audio adventure shares, at the end, Lee later said,
“I am rejoiced that slavery is abolished….I would cheerfully have lost all I have lost by the war, and have suffered all I have suffered, to have this object attained.”
At the conclusion of the story, G.A. Henty points out out that, “[Lee] accepted that God’s plans don’t always match the outcomes we desire.” What a great truth to share with all our children and through a historical account no less!
Current Audio Adventures Available
Besides, With Lee in Virginia, which I shared about above, Heirloom Audio Productions have also produced 4 other audio adventures that may peek your interested including…
- Under Drake’s Flag which is about Sir Francis Drake, an English sea captain, navigator, and politician whom the Spanish regarded as a pirate! It’s a story of shipwreck, battles, and even a shark attack! This is the first of the H.A. Genty adventures although these stories most certainly could be listened to in any order.
- In Freedom’s Cause which is about William Wallace who helped change the history of Scotland forever. We have just started this audio series and can’t wait to hear more. Think Braveheart gone audio!
- The Dragon and the Raven which is a medieval story about standing your ground and defending your home, your people, and your land at all costs. It’s also a story about the importance of a nation turning back to God before its too late.
- And they just came out with a NEW audio adventure that I can’t wait to hear–Beric the Briton! This video has me totally pumped already!
