You should have heard the squeals of delight when we got our Tommy Nelson package in the mail last week. I mean what is not to love about a book that is HOT pink and sports “cool looking” girls on the front, especially if you are a girl of 3 or 5? In the package was the new release Celebrating Great Women of the Bible: Brave Girls Bible Stories. “Read it to me Momma! Read it!” rang throughout the house. After reading the ENTIRE introduction without a stop, the girls requested that I go back to the beginning to record all the stories because this book would be one they would want hear read over and over again. That in itself is a HUGE compliment to a book in our family.
Next we skipped ahead to the story of Esther by the request of my eldest. They both loved it. Glory, one of the youth group girls in the book, then summarized the story by pointing out that there is nothing braver or more beautiful than a heart that loves and obeys God. What an inspiration for godly character! Immediately following our reading time, the girls grabbed their dress-up clothes and started acting out the Esther story, something they only do with their favorite storybook characters.
It was at this point I was sold. I am now making a point to read these stories to the girls every chance I get in addition to our regular Bible study time. They provide a great springboard for the discussion of godly character and inspire the girls with role models worth following.
The “youth group girls” that narrate and summarize each Bible story not only do a great job pointing out the godly characteristics of each woman of the Bible, they also have characteristics themselves that make them very relate-able. One is an athletic tomboy, one is a beauty queen wanna-be, one is a book and pet lover, one is into music, and one is even a homeschooler (which is rather neat to find, if I do say so myself).
Brave Girl Bible Stories is hot off the presses (just released on September 30th) and is a great biblical resource for inspiring your 3 to 8 year old girls to live godly lives. I definitely think this is a series you will be seeing a lot more of too. In fact, there is already a devotional series and Brave Girls Bible in the works (set to come out in 2015).
