Can you believe it? It is officially 2018! Happy New Year!
How do you like to start a new year? Do you have any traditions you like to complete each January 1st? In addition to eating black-eyed peas and cornbread, one of my favorite activities to do each year is to take a look back as I look forward. What worked well? What didn’t? Is there something I’d like to try to do differently the coming year? I use this analysis to help me plan attainable goals for the next 365 days.
The same holds true in the blogging world. It’s always fun to look back on the posts my readers have enjoyed the most over the past year as it gives me ideas for what to focus on more during the NEXT year. It is also provides a great starting point for new Cornerstone Confessions readers as well as a quality opportunity to revisit some old posts for veteran readers.

During the summer when life seems calm, and I’ve forgotten all the woes of the previous year, I enjoy planning our school day for the upcoming year in a beautifully colored spreadsheet. It’s relaxing. It’s exciting. And…it’s totally unrealistic. Continue reading…

This is where we were at the beginning of the summer. I kept hearing phrases like, “there’s nothing to do” and “I’ve already read everything we have twice.” Yet, nothing could have been further from the truth. The conclusion? We had too much stuff. Continue reading…

Ever have a school year where you know it will either be a great success or a total flop? That was me this summer. I really wasn’t sure how this year was going to go. We usually start school the second week of July, but with the addition of little Kiwi we chose to wait a few weeks before going at it hard core.
Knowing that my time would be split between homeschooling two vibrant girls and taking care of a newborn, I took some time last Spring to analyze and prepare our curriculum for this school year. My main focus was contemplating ways to give the girls more independent learning than in the past. This meant changing a few of our past curriculum options to something new, and even creating our own geography curriculum. Continue reading…
