Some of you who used to follow our weekly homeschool updates may wonder why our weekly updates stopped, if we are still homeschooling, and if so, how it’s going. So today, I thought I’d just give you an update of what all is going on in our homeschool world.
First things first, we are still homeschooling and enjoying working through My Father’s World Kindergarten and Before Five in a Row. In fact we are only a couple of weeks away from finishing for the summer (our goal is to have May and June off to enjoy the pleasant Spring weather). I can hardly believe how this semester has flown by.
As far as why the weekly posts stopped–Well, for one, I was having a hard time keeping up with those posts alongside homeschooling and the 144 series. And secondly, since the posts, as a rule, did not seem to spark an interest among the majority of my readers I decided I’d devote my time elsewhere and only post updates occasionally as time allowed.
As such today is the day where I get to reminisce and share a little bit of what we’ve been up to behind the scenes. I hope you enjoy taking a peek as much as I enjoyed putting these pics together for review. What a fun semester we’ve had!
A Few Highlights from the Semester
Peanut has finish Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons and is enjoying reading books on her own now. And Teacup can now cut paper on her own which was amazingly something she figured out very easily. It has also been fun watching the girls grow and learn to play together more. They are really starting to become best friends which is a precious thing to watch as a mom.
Our Lesson Plans
For those of you who enjoy knowing how the lesson plans of our different curriculum have come together, Peanut has continued to complete 4 pages of Singapore Math three times a week (usually on Day 2, 4, and 5 of the MFW K curriculum plan). And we have also continued to plug away at the Preschool Workbook finishing 6-8 pages each week on Days 1 and 6.
As far as Teacup, she has finished her Before Five in a Row books and now just enjoys learning whatever she can from what Peanut is doing. I recently ordered Teacup own Preschool Workbook which we are going to start next year alongside my Encompass Preschool Curriculum and she is so excited about it that she wants to start now. I love her enthusiasm. Makes me want the summer to almost be over…almost. 😉
To see more of the curriculum we used with both the girls, feel free to check out our 2013-2014 curriculum plan.
A Few of Our Favorite Books This Semester
One of the girls’ favorite things to do still remains curling up with mom in the recliner alongside a big stack of books. My girls are definitely leaning toward a Charlotte Mason mindset for sure. That said, here are a few of our favorite reads this semester that we are sure to check out from the library again and again.
- Click, Clack Moo: Cows That Type by Doreen Cronin
- The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf
- Billy and Blaze by C.W. Anderson
- My Chincoteague Pony by Susan Jeffers
- A Sick Day for Amos McGee by Phillip C. Stead
- Tacky the Penguin by Helen Lester
- Katy No Pocket by Emmy Payne
- How to Dig a Hole to the Other Side of the World by Faith McNutty
- Stone Soup by Marcia Brown
- Hill of Fire by Thomas P. Lewis
- Frog and Toad are Friends by Arnold Lobel
- Flossie and the Fox by Patricia C. McKissack
What have you been up to in your homeschool this semester?
And you shall teach them to your children by talking about them when you sit in your house and when you travel on the road and when you lie down and when you get up. (Deuteronomy 11:19)
