Welcome to Day 9 of our 10-day Newspaper Activities series. Today’s activity is definitely right up imagination alley as with the use of newspaper you can be anything…a little dutch girl, a cowboy, or a president! All it takes is a sheet of newspaper.
For today’s activity, I don’t have a step-by-step tutorial, mostly because this was a spur-of-the moment creation. One day Peanut and I were pretend playing when I mentioned the idea of making hats. Basically, in the end, she told me what she wanted to be and I folded, cut, stapled and scrunched newspaper to resemble what I best thought would represent that person’s hat. The result is what you see below. Who knows…with a little encouragement I don’t doubt some of your children can come up with some pretty spectacular hats of their own. That said, here’s just a few ideas to get you started.
You could create a cowboy hat…
A stove top hat…
A party hat…
A dutch girl’s hat…
A fashionable hat fit for a lady…
And more. The imagination is the limit. Have fun!

I never will forget the day I had to call Poison Control on behalf of my oldest daughter. I was cleaning out a cabinet when Peanut found a Benedryl bottle and opened it. Talk about mommy guilt. How that 14-month old baby opened that medicine bottle I’ll never know, but it must have been possible because it happened. The…
