I am so excited to share today’s post with you. While I love organizing and planning, decor is definitely not one of my strongest suites. Yet today’s post is about just that–home decor!
While taking the Bible study Called to be a Keeper, one of the presenters shared with us how important your front door decor is to the ambiance and overall inviting atmosphere of your home. Although a wreath helps, she suggested placing a globe in the middle of a large flower pot with a candle in it which you could light right before guests arrive. The problem: my entry faces west and once created, my candle melted quickly beneath the afternoon sun. I needed to create something different while just as inviting.
Goose and I have been wanting one of those street address plaques for some time. You know, the kind that says your street address and your family’s name on it so that the mailman knows for sure he got the right address? Well after some serious thought and scouring Pinterest, here’s what I came up with….
A Street Address Flower Tower. Not bad, eh? I have to say I am kind of proud of it. And the nice thing is, it takes little upkeep and the flowers can easily be swapped out for the seasons.
I began with five 6″ flower pots I already had. I washed them clean and spray painted them with a couple coats of black paint.
Next, I went to the computer and created some 4″ numbers using Publisher, making sure the background was black so I didn’t have to worry about precise cutting.
I then printed the numbers along with a cute family label and roughly cut them out along the numbers’ outside edges. I mod podged the numbers to the pots with some homemade mod podge (50% elmer’s glue and 50% water) and let it dry before finishing them off with a couple coats of lacquer.
The pots then looked like this….
I was so excited that I didn’t have to spend hours painting or stenciling to create a waterproof finished look. Thank you Publisher!
Next, I took the large flower pot I already had and a small fence stake my husband was no longer using in the garden and placed the stake in the large pot.
I filled the 5 small pots with potting soil and placed them in an alternating fashion one at a time on the stake. (FYI–If you are going to make this, make sure your small pots have a whole at the bottom big enough for the stake to go through). Finally, for the finishing touches, knowing that I’d likely forget to water any plants left on my front porch, I opted to add some fake flowers from the dollar store. The result is what you see below. I love it. Should I decide to change out my flowers at some point, it’s only a few dollars to exchange. Can you just imagine mums in the pots during the fall and poinsettias in the winter?
Needless to say, this street address flower tower adds inviting color to my once dull porch and helps others to know they’ve reached the right address. But, above all, I hope it says to others, “Welcome. I’m glad you’re here. You are important to us. Please come in and stay awhile.”

The simple answer is…I didn’t. The pots already came with a drain hole. They just happened to be the right size for the stake. Phew!
