Time for Imbalance

Life this last month as been crazy.  Concerts.  Events.  Volunteer organization deadlines.  It’s been nuts.  It’s reminded me that sometimes in life there just has to be time for imbalance.  Life is not always going to be ideal.  It’s not always going to be balanced.  Sometimes you won’t have time to dot all your “i”s or cross all your “t”s.  Really, it’s kind of like the Proverbs 31 woman.  Yes, over her lifetime she was a very balanced woman, but did you ever think of what her husband thought about her when she was going nuts with her tapestry business or when she was harvesting and storing grapes from her vineyard?  Those are big projects.  I’m sure she devoted hours on end to each in the midst of those seasons just like my hubby and I did when our little garden harvest came in.  It took a whole day just to pick all the sweet potatoes let alone the tomatoes, peas, green beans and well…you get the idea.  Yes, sometimes life is full of imbalance.

I heard a quote recently from Dave Ramsey that seems to fit right in with this topic.  He said, “I don’t think you need to balance your life.  I think that’s a myth.”  After getting my attention, he proceeded to explain that on a daily basis we don’t often live a balanced life whether we intend to or not.  Instead, over the course of a year we should try to live with some sort of balance and above all, we should live intentionally.  How true.  Yes, we can strive to create balance in our lives but when it really comes down to it, there are just times when our life will not be perfectly balanced and we need to know that that is okay too.  For example, if you’re breastfeeding, you’re going to spend the majority of your time with your baby feeding and/or pumping.  If you’re training for a marathon, you’re going to spend the majority of your time exercising and preparing your body for the event.  If you’re going back to school to learn a new skill, you’re going to spend the majority of your time in class and studying.  And it’s okay…if you’re intentional with your time and you know that this too is for a season.  You cannot live a perfectly balanced life every day and in every way.  That said, try something new every day, week or month to improve your life whether it’s adding a few minutes a day to pray, exercise, or spend time with your hubby.  Either way, that balance of time will be well spent.  But remember that the tortoise always wins the race.  Don’t try to attempt to change too much at one time.  It takes 21 days to change or form a habit (4o days if you’re changing a bad habit) so give it some time, one habit at a time.  Keep at it and come three or four months down the road, that habit will have become part of who you are and who you will have become.  My new habit:  to try and cook healthier meals consistently.  Wish me luck…ur…good health.
